Social sports

Sports are not only good for like as a form of exercise Sport can benefit you so much more as they are a form of social interaction, great for setting goals and improving your self-esteem. Many studies suggest that sport and other physical activities can contribute to the development of self-esteem. A pat on the back, a high-five from a friend, or a handshake with an opponent at the end of a match. However don' t get too caught up in winning or losing. It may have a very bad influence on your self-esteem. But instead, it is best to focus on the effort you put into your development and enjoyment of the sport as a whole. This makes it possible to train your body and your mind at once. It is also a great reliever of stress after a bad day. Getting rid of the aggression you have built up throughout your day in a non-abusive manner. It also benefits your communication skills as communication is key and learning to be part of a team is synonymous with learning to value the effectiveness of teamwork. This is a very useful skills to develop as you will need it if you want to participate in society. There are very many different kinds of sports out there so it is very likely you might have to search for a while before finding sometime fitting. I have tried to put together a small list of some of the options out theree to help you on your way:

Yoga

Yoga is a very good activity if you want to practice your mindfulness, flexibility and relaxation techniques. Yoga is becoming quite popular and fitness gyms and sport schools are offering a basic course. course. This is a perfect way to find out if it you suited for you and if you find you really enjoy it you can always join a more professional club. These clubs often offer free coffee and tea afterwards so there is some time to stay and have a chat with the other members. These social events are always a good way the mingle and get to know one each other.

Soccer

Soccer is of course one of the most popular sports in many countries. There are many different levels on you can play. From casual training with a match once a week to the national team where it is not merely a hobby but a profession. In most club it is custom to get together after a match or training and enjoy a nice, cold beverage (read: beer) while chatting about the latest soccer facts or just complain about how busy their day has been.

Extreme frisbee

This is a relative new sport but already booming! You play in to team and you need to compete in two teams where it is the objective to get the Frisbee across the field behind the line of the other team. Catch: there is no supervisor so the teams have to set rules with each other and have to agree upon possible mistakes. This makes it a very good sport to practice your team building and negotiation skills. The only downside is that the competition is still getting started so there are not that many professional teams yet. However among students it is already very popular.

Volleyball

This is a good team sport if you are not really the aggressive type. Because the field is divided and you don't have any contact with the competitors you do not have to be afraid to hurt anyone (or get hurt yourself). Although you do not have the run around that much it is still quite a physical sport that involves a lot of moving and jumping. It also has a vocal element as you need to communicate with each who you will throw the ball to, who is going to catch it or block it.

Jogging with a group

Of course you could go Jogging by yourself with some music on. But be honest, that is much less fun and way less motivating. Setting goals with a group and training together creates a common purpose and bonds people. Whether this involves training for a 5K or a marathon is does not matter how professional you are, there are many groups out there looking for new members. You could keep it simple and have a walk in the park. Or you could make it somewhat more adventurous by taking a hike into nature.
