Delicious discounts

As we remain a sober, ' with our mind on the money' people being Dutch it is in our nature to critically scan the offers in supermarkets. Most supermarkets like to trick the customers into their shops by offering a weekly, variable assortment of discounted goods. Often they announce their next week' s discounts in brochures or on their websites. It is clever to subscribe to these if you'd like be aware of the latest offers. In addition to these weekly offers, some supermarkets have introduced specials discounts for products which are nearing their expiration date. Instead of having to throw these away because they have expired. Grocery stores are likely to decrease the price to make them extra appealing. This way they still get rid of they products (making a small profit) and are more environmental friendly (which is good for the image of a shop). An example of a good which is not on sale due to its expiration date but for divergent reasons is valentine chocolates. A product connected to a special event like Christmas or Easter is likely to be on sale as soon as the celebration has ended. In addition to this there is a third group of products like certain teas or shampoo can go from the range if they are not sold enough. No matter which group of discount you are paying attention to, retailers also like to make it as obvious as possible by sticking on bright coloured discount stickers all over the place. However it might seem very tempting to always opt for the cheaper version I would not recommend to buy all the products that have these stickers. Dairy products and meats have a more strict expiration date and shelf life. If you consume these products while you do not fully trust these you can end up with food poisoning. However this is not applicable to many products, usually most products with a high sugar content such as sweets and candies are save to stock up upon as much as you like.
